Support Group Meetings
Finding out that you child has a disability is one of the most shattering things that can happen to any parent. You may feel grief at the lost dreams for your child’s future, and worry about their quality of life.
We offer a safe place where parents can share what is on their mind and talk about real issues with people who understand and who can support them through everything caring has to throw at them.
We also offer guidance on how to access local services and how to complete specific forms (Disability Living Allowance, Careers Allowance, Blue Badge request, EHCP and more).
Therapy Workshops
There is a large amount of research which shows that an early and consistent therapy intervention can reduce the impact of a child’s condition on their development and education. Parents are an extremely important part of their child’s therapy program; they can help determine whether or not their child’s therapy is a success.
However, quite often parents feel apprehensive about getting involved in their children’s therapy programs as they are lacking adequate training. Our workshops give parents and carers an opportunity to develop their knowledge and skills, in an informal and supportive atmosphere. We work closely with a range of therapists who can give hands on advice and demonstrate best practice for administering the children’s therapies.
Day trips and social activities
Disabled children and their families quite often suffer from social exclusion as a result of a combination of linked problems, including discrimination, poverty, segregation and inadequate provision of support services.
At G&E in a Bottle …
At G&E in a bottle we believe that every child, whatever their needs, has the right to a childhood. We organise social activities and day trips to specialised playgrounds which provide a safe environment where children can do what children do best; make friends and a make a mighty mess.
IMPORTANT
We encourage you to bring your children to all our programs. Our volunteers are always ready to keep children entertained, armed with glue, glitter, toys and lots of caring attitude.
From time to time, we take pictures for administrative purposes or as part of our publicity. We may use these pictures, including film in our prospectus, in press releases and advertisements, on our website or in our newsletters. However, we are fully aware that this is a powerful and personal process, and we must therefore respect the rights of everyone to make the choice whether or not to be photographed or filmed. If you have any objection, please contact a member of our team and we will make the necessary adjustments to respect fully your wishes.
